1983 Mercury Zephyr Service and Repair Manual

This factory service and repair manual for the 1983 Mercury Zephyr deals with two engines and four trims. The engines are a naturally aspirated 2.3L inline-four of 140 cubic inches with a single overhead camshaft and a naturally aspirated 3.3L inline-six of 200 cubic inches with pushrod valve gear; the trims are Base, GS, Z7 and Z7 GS, spread across a four-door sedan, a two-door coupe and a two-door sedan. Known issues on the 1983 Zephyr. Three recalls sit on the federal record. Replacement fuel pumps with a badly installed or untested diaphragm can leak, creating a fire hazard. Two more involve the automatic transmission: a defective spring in the park lever can stop the parking gear from engaging, and column shift selector tube retaining clips that were not hard enough can loosen or fall away, displacing the tube so the indicator no longer shows the gear actually selected.
