1982 Yamaha XS400 SPECIAL II Service and Repair Manual

LIT-11616-XS-42 closes out the SPECIAL II run with the 1982 machine, code XS400J. Yamaha issued no separate final-year book; this volume was kept current from 1976 to 1982 and also documents the XS360 and the standard XS400.

Because 1982 is the last year in the book, the revisions accumulated over the run are already reflected in it, listed against the codes they affect. Reading XS400J in the specification tables is how you keep a torque figure or a service limit tied to the right machine.

The repair content is the factory's own: engine work from valve clearance to crankcase splitting, clutch and gearbox, suspension and wheels, brake service, fuel and ignition adjustment, and electrical testing supported by complete harness diagrams.
