Known issues on the 1982 E-100 Econoline. Three recalls are on federal record for the 1982 E-100 Econoline. The column shift rod can come unseated from its grommet on the steering column so the driver cannot select the intended gear, a fastener holding the fuel sender ground wire was found to pierce the fuel tank in a rear impact test, and aftermarket fuel pumps sold for these vans had diaphragms that could leak and start a fire. Owners have filed one complaint with NHTSA, on the seat belts. Shift linkage adjustment, fuel tank and fuel pump procedures and the restraint section cover each of those.
