1981 Yamaha XS650 Service and Repair Manual

The 1981 XS650, code XS650H, is the last machine documented in Yamaha's LIT-11616-XS-62. That volume opens with the 1978 bikes and carries through to this one.

For a final-year machine the arrangement is useful, since every revision made during the run is already recorded and attributed, leaving no need to reconcile an early figure with a late part.

How to use it

Establish the specifications first, then use the adjustment chapter for routine service and the overhaul chapters when something must come apart. Those give disassembly order, the measurement at each stage, the wear limit and the reassembly torque. Carburetor and ignition settings are stated as values to reach. Electrical faults are worked through component test readings and the wiring diagram, which is drawn as the harness was built rather than simplified for illustration.
