1980 Yamaha XT500 Service and Repair Manual

By 1980 the XT500 was late in its run, and the model code for that year is XT500G. Yamaha's service manual, part number LIT-11616-01-50, is the same volume that carried the model from 1976 to 1981 and that also documents the SR500 and TT500.

Treating the run as one volume is an advantage rather than a compromise. A late XT500 shares most of its engine and chassis with the earlier bikes, so procedures written once apply throughout, and the text marks the places where 1980 parts or settings differ from earlier ones.

Inside are the factory torque values, wear and service limits, ignition timing figures, carburettor specifications, complete teardown and assembly sequences, and the wiring diagram for the harness as built. If a bike has been apart before and put back together by guesswork, the specification tables are usually where you find what went wrong. Match the code and the part number to your machine before ordering.
